Karon Jacot’s ‘before 8am’ is a project that she has done with a few different family’s were she documents their morning routines and what they entail for different family’s. I loved this documentary style as she says she prefers to be known and not be a fly on the wall when she is taking the images. This surprised me slightly as I assumed being a fly on the wall would create the most candid and life like moments. However, chatting and getting to know the family as she is there pays off a lot as she has managed to capture some amazing day to day pictures of an ordinary family.
I chose to look into her work, as her style of shooting is something that I would like to replicate within my own work. I don’t have the worry of getting to know my subjects, but getting them used to camera being around is something that I want to work on. This is to ensure that I can capture the same fluid and candid images for my project.
“Life is an adventure, and there is no script. I see something in ordinary moments. I believe that perfection comes not when you are dressed perfectly and wearing lipstick – but in little moments and interactions that make up our days and build and sustain our relationships. Let me show you the beauty in your unscripted moments…” – Karen Jacot, photographer
